Helicopter carrying President Raisi faces incident in northwest Iran

TEHRAN – A helicopter carrying Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi has faced an incident during a visit to the country’s northwest on Sunday, national TV reported.
The incident reportedly occurred as a result of dense fog in the region, which is making conditions difficult for rescue teams.
Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian was also aboard the copter.
Raisi was traveling in East Azerbaijan province. The incident happened near Jolfa, a city on the border with the Republic of Azerbaijan, some 600 kilometers (375 miles) northwest Tehran.
Raisi had been in Azerbaijan early Sunday to inaugurate a dam with Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev.
